So for the past few days (that's an understatement really), I am constantly fighting the urge to escape work. We are between projects, so it is really slow, and the work I have is unbearably repetitious. It doesn't help that I have an incredibly fun and busy weekend ahead, but it's unbearable nonetheless!
Living for the weekend sucks! Monday comes, and all I can think about is the next weekend. In fact, Sunday comes and all I can think about is the next weekend. I go home on a Friday and jump for joy at my freedom! I wake up on Saturday and lay in bed relishing the fact that I don't have to go to work.
So...advice please?? What do you do when you've got 8 hours of work ahead and you just can't take it any more? I know some of you love your jobs, but there has got to be some pearls of wisdom out there. So please share!

ReplyDeleteHAHAHAHAAAA!
Sorry- that probably wasn't very useful. You're probably doing that already.
Eat lunch at your desk, then you can get out an hour earlier! :-D
Check and check! Anything else for mental stability?
ReplyDeleteHmmm... Some greenery? I myself have been thinking about getting a plant for my desk. I think I might put it in the money corner, or whatever it's called.
ReplyDeleteThe money corner?
ReplyDeleteI'm with Donna. Check out blogs or work on your own blog. Lizzie and I have been falsely accused of checking out tris during work time (well, maybe not entirely false). I say, MAKE A LIST. You know, top 10 things to do to keep yourself sane, top 10 things not to eat before a tri -- you get the picture. So, make a list of your top 10 whatever, and post it on your blog.
ReplyDeleteHow about something a little more long term like:
ReplyDeleteCan you do any work from home? That might make it more interesting.
Is there anyway to cut your work week shorter?
Is there any new projects that you can do?
Or you could do a job search, and find a whole other career for yourself.
The money corner I think might be linked to prosperity? In Feng Shui, I've read it's the back left corner of any space.
ReplyDeleteHmm...I actually have a empty spot right there...maybe that explains some things ;)
ReplyDeleteSo I guess the verdict is I need to blog surf more, blog about the top ten ways to do so, and look for a new job. Hahahaha. I know in about a month or so I'll be crazy busy again!
I feel your pain since I also work here ;). This time shall pass...Just think how busy you'll be when I go on maternity leave and you are swamped with the work of 2! HAHA. No really... One trick for me (other than others mentioned) is getting up and going to the bathroom a lot. So take your time. :) Oh, and music helps too. Oh, and maybe we can post subliminal messages behind our computers--posters with the following phrase partially camouflaged: "My work has purpose!"
ReplyDelete10 Fabulous (or not so fabulous) Ideas:
ReplyDelete1. Study. Pick a topic you've always wanted to know more about and research it while at work.
2. Journal. Write poetry.
3. Pray.
4. Using your desk light, create new shadow creatures with your fingers. Have the creatures do a short skit, then perform it for Karen.
5. Decorate your space.
6. Use colored pencils to sketch your thoughts or feelings. Think of a name for each piece. Put them together in a booklet.
7. Play a game: Free throw a wadded piece of paper from your chair to the waste basket. Move the waste basket (or chair) farther away each time you make it in. Remember, practice makes perfect.
8. Memorize Bible verses.
9. Try playing Jingle Bells with your finger nails by flicking them with your teeth. This entails a bit of experimentation as to the tone each nail makes when being flicked.
10. Chat. Go to the water dispenser. Use the restroom. Chat. Go on a short walk around the office to clear your head. Go to the water dispenser. Check on your car. Chat. Go to the bathroom. Check your e-mail. Find one piece of work to do or to think about doing. Repeat.
