Why is napping so hard?

Seriously. Why?

I'm tired. I'm getting over a cold, so my body needs rest. I didn't sleep much last night. All of these things = I need a nap.

Additionally, I have a chunk of time for which I know I will be relatively uninterrupted.

But yet, I lay there. Awake. Resting yes, but asleep no. Why?

Is it the lack of melatonin in my brain because it is day time? Is it the small cup of coffee I had earlier, that left me still feeling tired? Is it the temptation of doing little things around the house? Is it the fear that I'll sleep through something important? Is it because I'm just a light sleeper and I need perfect circumstances to sleep? What are these perfect circumstances if not those above?

Seriously. Why?

And yes, I'm blogging while I should be napping. And from the other room I hear the sounds of my personal alarm going off. Nap time is over.
